How To Meditate

It is easy to do. Simply find a quiet place and go within.
When you are comfortable and your body is completely relaxed,
draw your attention to the dark inner screen behind your
eyes and see yourself in a place of great beauty, a place
you love. Feel why this is your special place, and embrace
these feelings. Holding them in your heart, decide on
your ideal: it could be a single word, like love, joy
or healing, or a sentence like "Be still and know
that I am God," or "I surrender to the Source
of my good." Use any phrase that seems meaningful
and right to you.
When your thoughts wander, draw them back to the words
of your ideal. Let it be your anchor, but not just the
words. Try to feel and experience your ideal (which serves
as a mantra). If your busy mind drifts away, bring it
back to your ideal. If your thoughts do not slow at all
and seem to speed up, but you want to stay in meditation,
return to the colors, shapes, textures and forms in your
imaged place of beauty and relax into them; as your thoughts
slow, return to the words, feeling and experience of your
ideal.
Gradually, your thoughts will drift away and your meditation
will deepen. In this attunement, many people sense a luminous
presence and feel united with goodness and all of life.
In deeper meditations, you may receive a message, or some
kind of knowledge or wisdom needed for your growth and
happiness. This feels like and is a gift. So is the experience
of quiet listening and attunement with the Source. We
emerge with a keener clarity of mind, a sense of inner
peace, creative solutions to challenges, and the inner
strength and resources needed to cope with whatever comes
our way.
You can consciously ask for wisdom or guidance. Simply
request help and allow it to appear in some form--a symbolic
shape, a word or phrase, or an animal, angel, teacher
or guide. Stay focused and wait patiently. If help comes
to you, remember what occurred and write it down after
your meditation is over. If nothing special occurs except
a calmer, deeper sense of relaxation, then close with
gratitude for this, open your eyes, wiggle your fingers
and toes, and return to ordinary consciousness. Your guidance
will appear in some other form: perhaps in a casual comment
made by a stranger or a friend, perhaps in a movie-like
dream, a meaningful coincidence or a pattern of them.
With the asking, you have embarked upon the higher road
of your destiny and your life's greatest blossoming. This
is the promise of the Source, the Creative Force that
makes itself available in infinite ways for our healing
and growth. You can strengthen this energy in your body,
mind and spirit by adding healing prayers for other people:
at the end of your meditations, simply say their names
or envision them. Depending on what your inner knowing
tells you, either infill or surround each person with
loving light. Notice how this loving prayerfulness changes
your own life for the better.
Over time, you can measure the success of your meditations.
You should experience more peace, healing, growth and
joy in your life, and it will radiate from you into the
lives you touch. Others may not visibly change for the
better, but you will notice a qualitative difference in
every aspect of your own life.
You are blessed in your journey. May love, the excitement
of discovery and your chosen ideal guide you every step
of the way until you reach the mountaintop, take flight
and soar like the freedom-loving eagle, able to see even
the tiniest things with a heart as big as the world. |

We go within the temple of the
body-mind to meet the voice of truth, the soul
self that is our finest teacher and most loving
friend.
In this calm, peaceful silence are our dreams
of life and the means of making them come true.
Step by step in this adventure in consciousness,
we master our emotions, balance our minds, heal
our bodies and evolve into the self-actualized
beings that we wish to be.
It is a journey walked alone, in the silence and
its attunement to the divine within us and all
things.
Even in the darkest moments of our lives
this inner light guides us, like a lantern,
onto a path leading up the mountain of
wisdom and higher consciousness.
The climb up the mountain path may be rugged
but with each step our perceptions widen and we
see
the beauty and truth in us and in all that is.
While exploring this higher
road, allow your body and mind to relax into these
words and images and we will take a brief journey.
Remember a time of great happiness, peace and
joy in your life. Now hold these memories and
feelings in mind for just a few moments. Notice
how your heart opens and your body relaxes.
 |
If we choose to do so, we can live in this consciousness
more of the time and take a higher road through
our lives, one that begins with inner peace and
leads to joy and perfect freedom. We can step onto
this path by way of contemplative activities like
meditation, planting a garden, walking along a beach,
or fly casting on a glassy lake. Once a state of
calm and comfort fills us up, we can respond to
the world with a centeredness and balance that is
our natural, core state. Having found it, we can
return to it no matter what occurs in our lives.
In this peacefulness exists our ability to access
a higher wisdom that is available to each of us.
With the benefit of this guidance, which many call
spiritual and others call higher mind, we make wise
choices based on our personal and collective good.
We become more aware and seek out what is best for
us and others.
Becoming more aware and seeking our highest good
draws us into attunement with our inborn desire
for wholeness. We begin to seek more elegant ways
to express and live our lives. When we are ready
to do so, we walk away from addictions which seem
to ease our gnawing emptiness and sustain us temporarily,
but never fill us up or allow us to stand on our
own.
It is not necessary to push away addictions before
beginning the journey. But it does help.

Released from inner stress and turmoil,
the purified heart and mind can unite and truly
know itself. However, we can embark on our paths
in any state of consciousness, as long as our
intentions are loving and pure. What counts most
is being on the road, where grace helps us do
the work.
We begin in a calm, contemplative state of mind
allowing us to originate an ideal that will steer
us toward our chosen destination. This ideal is
supported by life's goodness, which embraces us
as we climb the mountain of consciousness onto
a higher road. In time, we know with clarity who
we are and where we wish to go. For each of us,
the destination is different. But the climb is
always up the mountaintop of consciousness.
Our paths are not without challenge: each new
step brings healing and new lessons to learn.
Gradually, we draw closer to our pattern of perfection,
to that which we really are.
From the higher road, we see a broader world view.
In this lies understanding, acceptance and tolerance
of the slow, gradual evolution of human consciousness.
With faith in life's ultimate goodness, we surrender
to the greater good and abandon our fruitless
attempts to control the people and events in our
lives. We turn inward and master ourselves. The
outer world changes accordingly.
 |
Right away and over time, radiant light
fills our lives and we begin to blossom. Our gifts
and talents converge and our unique paths of destiny
spin themselves out before us. We are home in
a joyful world of our own making. It is created
by and through love, the fabric of the universe.
In this new millennium, quantum physics is proving
what mystics and prophets have always known to
be true: that there is a Creative Force in this
universe which, out of freedom and love, enables
us to express our thoughts, emotions, beliefs
and attitudes in any way we see fit. Our thoughts,
as deeds, become "crimes or miracles,"
as Edgar Cayce, the great psychic and holistic
healer, explained nearly a century ago. It is
up to us to choose the low road or the high road.
We make conscious choices, knowing that deep,
lasting lessons come out of personal choice and
our experiential paths of discovery, and not fear
or coercion by external forces. In this new age
of enlightenment, ancient myths and superstition
are losing power and disappearing into the pages
of history.
 |
We are beginning to see that there is only one Creative
Force, and it doesn't matter whether we call this
force Universal Mind, Allah, God, Jehovah, Spirit
or the Quantum Field of Consciousness. What matters
is that we argue no more about its name and its
nature and leave each other free to discover this
benevolent Force in whatever time and way each of
us wishes to do so.
Spirit does not judge us, nor is it to be feared.
It is the law of love, healing and growth that we
see in nature, the smile of a little child, the
movement of time in the celestial night that precedes
the dawn of awakening. We see all of these things
and much more on the higher road.
Let us walk this path with joy and expectation,
knowing that each step brings us into sharper clarity
of mind and the open-heartedness of unconditional
love: compassion, patience, tolerance, understanding
and forgiveness, so that all may be purified and
move closer to the Source, which is radiant perfection.
